Gannett Co., the biggest U.S. newspaper publisher, chose video services company thePlatform to manage back-end video operations for more than 150 Web sites including USAToday.com. Maven Networks will coordinate advertising for Gannett’s video.
Under the deals, thePlatform will aggregate video from the Gannett sites, distribute it among company properties and syndicate it to third-party sites. Maven will provide video advertising and player systems.
Companies like thePlatform, Roo, Brightcove and Maven are racing to sign up publishers of Web content as demand from consumers and advertisers fuels growth in the sector.
ThePlatform counts the News Corp.-NBC Universal joint venture Hulu among its customers, while Maven’s client list includes the Financial Times and Fox News.
