‘Quarterlife’ a TV Candidate, Co-Creator Says

The creators of “Quarterlife,” the made-for-the Web series that debuts Sunday on MySpace, are talking to TV networks about putting the show on television.
Marshall Herskovitz, who created “Quarterlife” with Edward Zwick, said he has had discussions with various networks. His comments followed a report in Daily Variety saying NBC was looking at the show as contingency programming should the Writers Guild of America strike force schedule changes.
“We have consistently said we welcome the opportunity for the series to be broadcast on a network,” Mr. Herskovitz said.
“Quarterlife,” which follows a group of 20-somethings adjusting to life after college, is the biggest-budget original Web series ever created, Mr. Herskovitz said.
The program is debuting as media companies and Internet video shops turn to more professionally produced fare to attract advertisers who are loath to place spots next to lower-quality, user-generated material.
Mr. Herskovitz said “Quarterlife” was produced for less than half the normal $2.5 million spent to make each hour of drama programming for TV. Mr. Herskovitz and Mr. Zwick are Emmy Award winners with credits including “thirtysomething” and “My So-Called Life.”
