Radar Part of Syndie Development Rush

Nov 11, 2007  •  Post A Comment

Syndication producers and distributors continue to show a level of aggressiveness in developing shows not seen by the industry since the beginning of the decade.
Radar Distribution, whose first syndication project, “Jury Duty,” was unleashed this season, has amped up its development considerably, with 11 original first-run projects in development for fall 2008.
The distribution company was formed earlier this year by Radar Entertainment, which is run by “Jury Duty” creator and executive producer Vincent Dymon. He tapped Ernest Cartwright and Mark Robbins as co-presidents of the distribution division, which will be charged with sales of Radar Entertainment series for the fall and beyond.
The 11 series are being designed both as strips and as weekly shows and are being offered on a barter basis. The shows are being pitched as five programming blocks for stations. The first, dubbed “Happy Hour,” will feature “A Pound of Paula,” hosted by comedian Paula Poundstone, and “Forever Hold Your Peace,” with former “The X Show” and “Studs” host Mark DeCarlo.
Ms. Poundstone’s series will feature celebrity guests who express their individual outlooks on everyday life, while Mr. DeCarlo’s series will offer advice on how to make, or break, relationships.
The second block, called “The Awareness Hour,” will feature motivational speaker Johnny Wimbrey on “Motivate & Enlighten,” while personal security will take precedence in “In Your Face With Bo Dietl,” hosted by the detective and security expert.
The “Justice Hours” block showcases Judge Mark Evans and his wife, Judge Elizabeth Coker, bringing their home life to the bench on “Relative Justice,” a relationship-themed twist on the family court show genre. The companion strip, “Big Apple Justice,” provides a half-hour presided over by judge and author Edwin Torres (“Carlito’s Way”).
“The Empower Hour” block pairs Catherine Oxenberg in “Practical Princess” with “Shrink Rap,” the companion strip, hosted by “Starting Over” and “VH1 Celebrity Fit Club” presence Stacy Kaiser.
The final block, called “Star Power Hour,” will pair “Jury Duty” with “Star Witness,” featuring legal analyst Rikki Klieman sorting through battling litigants with the help of a celebrity star witness.
In addition, Radar Entertainment will introduce two other series as stand-alone half-hour strips: “Teen Talk With India Oxenberg,” a daily half-hour for afternoon or early fringe targeted to female teens, and “Godfrey Live,” 30 daily minutes in late night of topical talk and sketch comedy and variety hosted by comedian Godfrey.

  1. This outfit is taking the Entertainment Studios/Television Syndication Co. approach to distribution. I highly doubt they’ll be able to clear all of their blocks.

  3. I cant believe the NHL is going to risk losing one of the best players in his prime to the nHL

  4. I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)
