John H. Idler has been named president and general manager of ABC-owned WTVD-TV in Raleigh-Durham, N.C. He was sales manager at WTVD from 2000 to 2002, when he was promoted to VP and general sales manager of sister ABC-owned station WLS-TV in Chicago.
Mr. Idler’s promotion, announced Tuesday, is the latest in a series of high-level moves made within the group since the promotion of WABC-TV general manager Dave Davis to executive VP of ABC News.
In Raleigh-Durham, Mr. Idler succeeds Bernie Prazenica, who was recently promoted to president and general manager of ABC-owned WPVI-TV in Philadelphia.
“John Idler has had an outstanding track record in management at WLS-TV in Chicago for the past five years,” said Walter C. Liss, president of the ABC Television Stations Group.
Mr. Idler’s 16 years of broadcast TV experience include sales and marketing positions with NC Television Stations, Tribune Broadcasting/CLTV News and Telerep/Cox Enterprises. He began his broadcasting career as a planning analyst, and later manager of sales planning, for CBS Network Television Sales.
