Last year’s ranking: 3
To put it simply: “Don’t even think of taking her off the list,” said one expert.
As the only veteran first-run strip to improve over last year’s rating, despite a long run on the air, Judge Judy was able to cash in, reportedly signing a new deal that will ensure she stays on the air through the 2012-13 season. In fact, after being named Forbes’ 13th richest woman on television, earning $32 million a year, she now can move up that chart with a hefty raise in the new deal.
“In an eroding marketplace, Judy defies gravity. For a show that is in its 12th season to be up year-to-year is extremely impressive,” said a participant.
“This no-nonsense, ‘Don’t piss on my leg and tell me it’s raining’ jurist has and continues to lead the court show docket,” wrote another. “She is the chief justice of the Supreme Court of television jurisprudence.”
“Judge Judy” is averaging a 4.8 rating this season, up 4% from the same period in the 2006-07 season. She has inspired a throng of copycats this decade, with 11 court shows on the air and several more in development.
