As part of its broader effort to boost viewership through Internet partnerships, Viacom unit MTV Networks will begin showing video clips of its programming on online video service Veoh Networks and publicly held Web video network GoFish, the companies said today.
Video clips from MTV’s eponymous channels, as well as from its Nickelodeon, Comedy Central and others, will be available on San Francisco-based GoFish, which went public in 2006, and on Veoh starting this quarter.
Monthly viewership at San Diego-based Veoh has jumped almost eightfold to 21.5 million unique viewers since the site launched in February.
Veoh “will be a valuable partner in MTV Networks’ targeted online syndication efforts,” Greg Clayman, executive VP of digital distribution and business development at MTV, said today in a statement.
Veoh, whose backers include Time Warner, Goldman Sachs Group and Michael Eisner’s Tornante, already airs some programming clips from former Viacom unit CBS as well as from NBC and Fox.
As for GoFish, Viacom also is taking an equity stake in the Web site, which has a market value of $94 million.
GoFish “has established itself as a leader in video content for the highly targeted youth audience,” said Mr. Clayman. “We’re extending the reach of our brands and creating deep and interactive experiences.”
MTV, which has 300 Web sites that attract about 90 million unique viewers each months, today also agreed to begin showing video clips of its programming on sites such as Time Warner’s AOL, Comcast Corp.’s Fancast and Microsoft Corp.’s MSN, the company said today.
