“Boston Legal,” the 4-year-old legal drama from producer David E. Kelley, will begin airing on ION Television this fall.
The show, starring James Spader, Candice Bergen and William Shatner, is distributed by News Corp.’s Twentieth Television. It premiered in 2004 on ABC, where it continues to run as one of the network’s top 20 programs.
“We are excited that ION Television will be sharing with their viewers this Emmy Award-winning program,” Twentieth Television president Bob Cook said in a statement Monday.
ION Media Networks owns and operates 60 stations and reaches more than 94 million households nationwide.

  1. I am surprised that ION is picking this up. They have always been a family-oriented network with reruns of shows like Touched by an Angel and Diagnosis Murder. Boston Legal is rife with sexual innuendo, way more than most shows -it doesn’t fit at all with their normal vieership.
I am very disappointed they have chosen to go with the lowest common denominator.

  2. I am expecting that you have not watched Ion in a while. They are turning themselves into a broadcast version on Nick at Nite/TV Land. This kinda shows me a turn towards a more diverse lineup other than sitcoms. They are pulling in OK numbers as of late. I’ve heard that their primetime lineup gets .5 or .6 ratings, not bad for primetime on a network that broadcasts on mostly past 50 on the local lineup. The opick up of Boston Legal also tells me that they are finally making money. Paxon communications always lost money with this venture, until now. There is finally something on the network I would want to watch.

  3. This is exciting news! Are they running Boston Legal Monday thru Friday or just one night a week? Speaking as someone who almost NEVER watches Ion, I can say they have just gained a new viewer.
Note to Phil K: Are you saying Baywatch is without sexual innuendo? Ion airs that now! Get your head out of the “Highway To Heaven” sand!

  4. Since a lot of us can’t afford cable, I think that maybe we can put the infomercial on a little later especially on the weekend when there is nothing on tv they can gain a lot of viewers if they put on some good shows around the weekends. just a suggestion.
