‘Lost’ Takes Thursday, ‘Survivor’ Takes Bow

ABC won the Thursday-night ratings race with a new episode of “Lost,” which doubled the audience of its closest competition but dropped off slightly from its premiere numbers last week.
“Lost” pulled a 6.4 rating among 18- to 49-year old viewers, according to preliminary Nielsen numbers. That was the night’s top-rated show, but the viewership number represented a 4.5% decline in the 9 p.m. slot from last week’s opening.
ABC used a repeat of last week’s “Lost” debut as a lead-in for the new episode, and followed with “Eli Stone” at 10 p.m. “Stone” dipped 10% (4.0 to 3.6) from its premiere rating.
CBS unveiled its 16th iteration of “Survivor” (a veterans-versus-fans affair set in Micronesia), winning the 8 p.m. time slot with a 4.7, ranking it second for the night.
That number is 6% lower than the first episode of the last incarnation of Survivor, which was filmed in China. But the China debut, which pulled a 5.0 rating, was classified as a special, complicating comparisons. Last night’s Micronesia installment tied with the first non-special episode of the China series.
CBS placed second for the night (3.5) on the back of “Survivor” and repeats of “CSI” (3.1) and “Without a Trace” (2.7).
CBS was first in total viewers, bringing in nearly 12 million last night.
NBC ranked third (2.9) with new episodes of “Deal or No Deal” (2.6), “Celebrity Apprentice” (3.2) and the debut of “Lipstick Jungle” (2.9).
“Jungle” saw a severe drop-off against “ER’s” September premiere (4.1), which occupied the same time slot. In fact, every single episode of “ER” outperformed “Jungle’s” debut numbers.
Fox tied NBC with a 2.9 for the night, propelled by new episodes of “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” (2.7) and “Don’t Forget the Lyrics!” (3.1).
New episodes of “Smallville” (1.8) and “Supernatural” (1.1) gave The CW fifth place with a 1.4.
