‘Lost’ Wins Third Thursday, Continues Ratings Slide

Feb 15, 2008  •  Post A Comment

“Lost” racked up another Thursday win, despite slipping again from last week.
ABC pulled out the win in the 18- to 49-year-old demographic with a 3.5, according to preliminary Nielsen numbers. “Lost” brought in a 5.7, down 12% from last week—a curious dip for the much-hyped drama.
Following “Lost,” “Eli Stone” won its 10 p.m. time slot with a 2.8, down 15% from last week.
The threat for ABC is “CSI” rumbling back to life after weeks of rerun dormancy. Six new episodes are scheduled for the crime procedural before the end of the season, starting April 3.
If run straight through, “Lost” will exhaust its eight completed original episodes before then. It’s expected to return in April or May with new content.
Of course, so will “Lost’s” previous time-slot holder, “Grey’s Anatomy.”
ABC said it’s still up in the air which show will go toe-to-toe with “CSI,” but hopes to know next week.
CBS (3.2) tied for second place on Thursday, leading off with a new episode of “Survivor: Micronesia” (4.5, down 6% from last week’s premiere, but still winning the 8 p.m. hour), and repeats of “CSI” (2.9) and “Without a Trace” (2.3).
NBC (3.2) was also in second, with a special episode of “Deal or No Deal” (3.4), “Celebrity Apprentice” (3.7), and “Lipstick Jungle” (2.5, down 14% from last week’s premiere).
Fox and The CW tied for fourth with a 1.4.
Fox came in with the two-hour “39th Annual NAACP Image Awards” (1.4), which a few weeks ago was riding high on being one of the exclusive bunch of awards shows granted a WGA waiver.
The CW had new showings of “Smallville” (1.5) and “Supernatural” (1.2, up 9% from last week).

  1. Maybe viewers are finally getting tired of the endless questions and games Lost plays? I grew weary of their ramblings after they killed off Boone and Shannon and have never looked back. I found a great show that actually has a focus, a master plan, and resolves plots before heading off on a new mythic arc.
It is called Supernatural and if you want inventive storytelling with action, humor, drama, horrors, and heartfelt brotherly moments, not to mention great acting and writing, then you too should tune to the CW for this awesome show. Supernatural rocks and once you view it, you’ll be hooked too.
The fans of Supernatural have been called the most dedicated, passionate fans of any TV show this decade. There is a reason for our devotion, check it out and discover this hidden gem.

  2. you gave up too soon.

  3. Duh, it was Valentine’s Day people…LOST is in the 18-25 year old Demo…those are people who have better things to do than watch TV on Feb 14th!! Check how many people recorded it on their DVR and I’ll bet it more than makes up the difference…

  4. so far, after watching the first 3s, i wonder what the black smoke is all about ? what the hanso foundation or the dharma initiative are all about ?
And now, new people are on the island…. but only 6 managed to get away from it….
i love the show but it needs to get to the basics: what happened to the others ? what are they doing ? why arent they rescuing their boss ?
we need JJ back to lost…

  5. I agree with Mike that many people were out for Valentine’s Day, because although a lot of the Lost audience probably doesn’t have a girlfriend/wife as compared to other dramas out there that age demographic guarantees that a good chunk of their audience does. I know I TIVOed it, because watching Lost wasn’t exactly my girlfriend’s ideal Valentine’s Day.

  6. I’m with Mike too and think it’s pretty lousy that people like Andrew and Rick Kissel at Variety who are PAID to report on the ratings and then don’t have enough sense to point out it’s Valentine’s Day when doing their analysis of Lost’s lower ratings.
It will be interesting to see whether the DVR numbers for Lost are higher than usual.

  7. If so, any way I can get a disk of episode 8 (QVC) please? I was making a nice library but we had a power failure and I lost it. Please help, will happily pay for shipping and time.
