Shaquille O’Neal couldn’t deliver a victory in his debut with the Phoenix Suns Wednesday night, but he did generate record ratings for cable’s FSN Arizona.
In overnight ratings, the Suns’ game against the Los Angeles Lakers, led by Shaq’s former teammate Kobe Bryant, drew an 8.8 rating and 12 share in the Phoenix market, or 158,628 households, the most ever for the network.
The previous record occurred when Mr. O’Neal, then with the Miami Heat, played against the Suns on Jan. 11, 2005.
In Phoenix, the National Basketball Association game was the second highest rated show on TV, trailing only Fox’s “American Idol.” The game was televised nationally by ESPN, which drew a 6.8 rating and 10 share in Phoenix.
