NBC Will Stay Original During Rerun Season (TV Week)
NBC will air original episodes of its reality shows, including “American Gladiators” and “America’s Got Talent,” throughout the summer, when networks traditionally show reruns, TV Week reports, citing NBC Entertainment Co-Chairman Ben Silverman. New NBC shows such as “Fear Itself” and “The Baby Borrowers” will also air during the summer, the magazine says, citing Silverman.
AFTRA Gives SAG Deadline to Start Yapping (Variety)
Leaders of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists sent Screen Actors Guild heads a letter saying they have until March 10 to decide whether SAG will start negotiations with studios by the end of the month, Daily Variety reports. SAG, whose studio contract expires June 30 along with AFTRA’s, didn’t immediately respond to the letter, the newspaper says.
‘Dexter’ Gains Ex-‘Shield’ Exec, Spawns Game (Variety, Hollywood Reporter)
Charles “Chic” Eglee, a former producer of “The Shield,” will replace Daniel Cerone as executive producer of Showtime’s “Dexter,” Daily Variety reports. The show will also be developed into a video game for Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 platforms by Marc Ecko Entertainment, the Hollywood Reporter says.
CBS to ‘Swing’ Into Summer (Hollywood Reporter)
CBS will begin airing “Swingtown,” a drama about sexually experimental couples in 1970s Chicago, this summer, the Hollywood Reporter says. Originally scheduled to air mid-season, the show only completed production on two episodes before the Writers Guild of America strike started last November, the newspaper reports.
E! Is All Into the Family With Lohan Reality Show (Reuters)
E! greenlighted a reality-television show about Lindsay Lohan’s mother and sister, Reuters reports. The tentative title for the show about mother Dina and the 14-year-old Ali is “Living Lohan,” the wire service reports.
Fox Names Makkos, Wiley VPs of Comedy Development (Daily Variety)
Foxed promoted Suzanna Makkos to vice president of comedy development while bringing on William Morris representative Marcus Wiley for the same title, Daily Variety reports. Makkos has been in Fox’s comedy department for seven years while Wiley had programming and development positions with Fox before becoming an agent, the newspaper says.
Hanesbrands Ads to Feature ‘Scrubs’ Star Working Out Wedgies (Wall Street Journal)
Hanesbrands next week will start airing advertisements highlighting the problem of wedgies in an effort to promote its No Ride Up Panty women’s underwear, the Wall Street Journal reports. The ads, created by Interpublic Group’s Martin Agency, will feature “Scrubs” actress Sarah Chalke trying to work out the wedgies, the Journal says.
India TV Executives NABbed for Vegas Conference Next Month (Daily Variety)India television executives, including Dr. Prannoy Roy of NBC Universal partner New Delhi Television and Sunil Lulla of Turner Television’s India partner Alva Brothers, will be among the featured speakers at next month’s National Association of Broadcasters conference in Las Vegas, Daily Variety reports. Ernst & Young will release its report on the Indian TV industry at the event, the newspaper says.
Generate Generates $6 Million in Funding for Production, Expansion (TV Week)Generate, a new-media production house and talent agency, received $6 million in funding from Velocity Interactive Group and MK Capital, TV Week reports. Generate will produce the second season of Web series “Pink,” which attracted 4 million views during its premier season when it wasn’t produced by Generate, the magazine says.
Nickelodeon Hires Clothing Executive for ‘SquarePants’ Brand (The Hollywood Reporter)Nickelodeon/MTVN Kids and Family Group hired former Ann Taylor executive Jennifer Goodman Linn to help lead the network’s branding efforts, the Hollywood Reporter says. Linn, who’d previously worked for McKinsey & Co. and Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising, will head marketing for “SpongeBob SquarePants” and “Dora the Explorer,” among other children’s shows, the newspaper reports.
