“NBC Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams will host the 67th annual Peabody Awards.
The Peabodys, which recognize “excellence and meritorious work” by organizations and individuals in media, will be presented June 16 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York.
The winners of the 2007 Peabody Awards—in categories of original broadcast, cablecast and Webcast programs—will be announced April 2 via Webcast and satellite from the University of Georgia.
Mr. Williams, who succeeded Tom Brokaw in 2004 as “NBC Nightly News’” anchor and managing editor, has received a Peabody Award for his work in journalism, as well as Edward R. Murrow and Emmy Awards.
“Brian Williams is a broadcast journalist who exemplifies on a daily basis the single criterion that defines the Peabody Award—excellence,” said Horace Newcomb, director of the Peabody Awards at the University of Georgia. “We are delighted that he will serve as our host and master of ceremonies.”
