Web video network Veoh reported increases in unique visitors, content consumption and content length for the first quarter of this year.
The company noted the average length of content for clips on Veoh.com during the first quarter of 2008 was longer than 10 minutes, up from 6 minutes from the previous quarter, suggesting a shift of user interest to longer-form content on the site.
According to the company, Veoh’s audience increased about 25% to 28 million unique viewers during that time frame, up from 23 million during the previous quarter.
Veoh’s audience increased its consumption, viewing more than 46 million hours of content for the month of March. That averages to almost 100 minutes of content viewed per visitor, which the company says is about twice as much time spent by viewers on YouTube, according to Nielsen NetRatings.
“[TV] audiences are going through the biggest shift in viewing behavior since the advent of cable in the 1980s,” Veoh Networks CEO Steve Mitgang said. “The Internet has unlocked a new way to watch television and video, and given the engagement we’re seeing on Veoh, I’m confident it will eventually become the primary way people watch their favorite programming.”
Veoh said viewing during prime-time TV hours increased by 44% for the quarter.
