CBS and interactive entertainment company EQAL are teaming up to produce content for television, online and mobile distribution.
The partnership, announced Wednesday, gives CBS a non-exclusive first look at the work of EQAL founders Miles Beckett and Greg Goodfried, who co-created the interactive Web series “lonelygirl15” and “KateModern.”
The deal also sees EQAL acting as an interactivity consultant to the network. EQAL will work with CBS writers to help develop an interactive element to televised storylines and produce content for the Web to increase engagement, or, as the partners said in a statement, “create experiences that extend the narrative of its television shows to online and mobile platforms.”
“This partnering signals CBS’ attention to the Web as a new medium across both Interactive and the network,” CBS Interactive President Quincy Smith. “EQAL is at the forefront of developing and applying content online. CBS is thrilled to add their talents and energy into the mix as we create CBS show experiences for the Web.”
