Web video celebrity Amanda Congdon has signed with production studio Media Rights Capital to host a new online series, “Sometimes Daily,” a variety show covering news, technology, politics, the environment and other topics.
“[Ms. Congdon] is the world’s first videoblog star and has had her finger on the pulse of the digital community almost as long as there’s been a digital community to entertain,” MRC President of Digital Media Dan Goodman said. “Our focus for ‘Sometimes Daily’ will be taking a great proven digital talent… and offering MRC’s support and infrastructure to unleash her creatively to do what she does best.”
Media Rights Capital is developing series for The CW’s Sunday night after the network outsourced its programming in order to focus on its weekday prime-time lineup. The company declined to comment on potential TV deals with Ms. Congdon.
The series is currently available on its Web site SometimesDaily.com, and other Web videos sites, such as YouTube, Vimeo and Blip.tv. Other distribution deals will be announced shortly.
Ms. Congdon rose to Internet fame as one of the early video bloggers with her series “Rocketboom.” Her hosting duties gave way to a stint as a correspondent for ABC News and landed her a development deal with HBO.
