HD programming picks for May 29 to June 4: “Out of Africa,” “Dirty Dancing,” “To Die For”
“Out of Africa” (HBO). Thurs., May 29, 6:15 p.m. Meryl Streep plays a Danish baroness, in a marriage of convenience, who moves to Africa to run a coffee plantation and falls for, gasp, a local adventurer, played by Robert Redford. The film won Best Picture at the 1986 Oscars as well as the director statuette for the late Sydney Pollack.
“Dirty Dancing” (Showtime). Sat., May 31, 8 p.m. Jennifer Grey makes the dreaded trip up to the Catskills with her folks and falls for, gasp, a dance instructor, played by Patrick Swayze. Two decades later, nobody has yet put Baby in a corner.
“To Die For” (Starz). Mon., June 2, 7:15 p.m. Joaquin Phoenix plays a teenage misfit who falls for, gasp, an aspiring TV newscaster, played by Nicole Kidman, who’s trying to put a hit on her husband, Matt Dillon. Gus Van Sant directed and Buck Henry wrote the screenplay for this 1995 dark comedy.
