Discovery Communications has made a deal with Blockbuster for the retailer to sell Discovery’s programming on DVD.
More than 2,500 Blockbuster stores will carry more than three dozen nonfiction titles from Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, TLC, Discovery Kids and the Military Channel. Series that will be made available include Discovery Channel’s “Man vs. Wild” and “Planet Earth,” Animal Planet’s “Meerkat Manor” and TLC’s “Best of ‘Little People, Big World.’”
Participating Blockbuster stores will feature Discovery-branded displays showcasing the product, as well as running trailers and program content on in-store monitors.
“Our agreement with Blockbuster will be a boon for customers who want greater access to the Discovery networks’ award-winning and popular programs and series. We’re now making all the great content on the Discovery Channel as close as the neighborhood Blockbuster store,” Patrick Gates, president and general manager of Discovery Commerce, said in a statement.
