Univision Named POP Network of the Year

The seventh annual Positively Outstanding Programming (Pop) Awards saw a diverse group of networks and individuals take home honors for exceptional HIV/AIDS-related cable television.
The ceremony was held June 10 in New York at the Time Warner Center, hosted by actor Frederick Weller. Presenters included author Marvelyn Brown, designer Jack Mackenroth and BET host Alesha Renee.
Taking home top honors were Univision, which won the POP Network of the Year Award, and Motorola Executive VP Dan Moloney, who was named the TelevisionWeek HIV/AIDS Education Advocate of the Year.

Original Series: “College Hill,” Season 4 (BET)
Special Programming: “I Want to Be a Pilot” (Sundance Channel)
Original Film/Movie: “Reflections” (BET)
Documentary: “Positive Voices: Women & HIV” (Showtime)
Original Spanish-Language Programming: “Asi Es la Vida,” for episode “Com Dominio Total” (Telefutura)
Spanish-Language PSA: “Salud Es Vida…Enterate!” (Univision)
News Coverage: “House Call With Sanjay Gupta” for segment “World AIDS Day: South Africa’s Story” (CNN)
Biographical Programming: “Cause Effect” for episode “National AIDS Fund/American Red Cross” (MTVU)
PSA: “HIV Testing PSA” (HBO)
PSA Campaign: “Scenarios Series—Rap-It-Up” (BET/Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation)
Community Partnership: “Lies PSA” (Suddenlink/Covenant House AIDS Residential & Resource Program)
POP Network of the Year: Univision
