Viewers Gravitate to ‘Stonehenge Decoded’

National Geographic Channel’s two-hour premiere of “Stonehenge Decoded” on Sunday averaged 1.38 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research.
In its premiere airing from 9-11 p.m. ET, “Stonehenge” averaged a 1.37 household rating and a 0.92 in persons 25-54; that was up 96% and 130%, respectively, from the time slot’s six-week average.
The program was the National Geographic Channel’s most watched broadcast since the April 2006 debut of “Gospel of Judas,” reaching 4.63 million people 2+ in its premiere airing. It placed the network fourth for the night from 10-11 p.m. among all ad-supported cable networks in viewers age 25-54.
“Stonehenge Decoded,” narrated by Donald Sutherland, explores new scientific proof on Stonehenge’s purpose and the people who built it.
The network buoyed the premiere of the program with a cross-platform campaign that included a National Geographic magazine cover, a viral spoof featuring Christopher Guest and a Web site.
The documentary will be rebroadcast June 5 at 9 p.m.
