Williams to Host ‘Meet the Press’ Sunday

“NBC Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams will host “Meet the Press” Sunday.
The headline guests will be Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., and Sen. Lindsay Graham, R-S.C.
Both were scheduled to appear on last Sunday’s edition of the show, for which moderator Tim Russert was preparing last Friday when he collapsed and died at the NBC News bureau in Washington, D.C. There also will be a roundtable of NBC News political reporters Sunday.
NBC News President Steve Capus told TelevisionWeek Thursday afternoon that “it seemed fitting to have the anchor of ‘Nightly News’ step in. Brian’s been Tim’s partner through I don’t know how many debates this election season and through primary election night coverage, and it seemed like the right call to ask Brian to come in and do this.”
“Brian, I know, was honored to be asked to do it,” Mr. Capus said.
The conversation with the NBC News president was taking place not quite 24 hours after a veritable summit of political and media powers had converged on the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. They had come to pay tribute to Mr. Russert, and the role he had come to play in his 17 years as moderator of “Meet the Press” and chief of the Washington bureau, and more than two decades as an NBC News VP.
“We are transitioning out of shock and into the stark realization of the finality of all this,” Mr. Capus said. “The reality, kind of a crushing reality has started to take hold.”
He acknowledged the inevitable decisions that will need to be made for the news division and the network to move forward.
“I just don’t think we can change gears into that this week,” he said. “I can think ahead to Sunday.”

  2. I’m glad to hear that NBC decided on Brian Williams for this weeks show. I was hoping they’d choose Mike Barnical for a perminent host because, like Tim Russert, he’s direct and to the point, but with a heart. He was also Tim’s best friend and I think Tim would be smiling in heaven to see him take over for him.
