ABC Adds to ‘Wipeout’ Run

File under “duh”: ABC will be ordering more episodes of its summer game show hit “Wipeout.”
“I think there’s no question it’s going to go forward,” ABC Entertainment President Steve McPherson said Wednesday at the network’s TCA press tour presentation. He said he has been talking to Endemol USA chief David Goldberg about a pickup.
Mr. McPherson said he’s going to try to resist the temptation to run the wheels off “Wipeout,” no doubt wanting to avoid the fate of NBC’s “American Gladiators.” That show did well in the spring but came back this summer to subpar ratings.
“I’d love to have a summer asset … a show that comes back in the summer the way CBS has ‘Big Brother,’” he said. “We’ll have to see how the schedule lays out this year and where it goes. But I think we all have to try to resist the temptation to just burn things out.”
