CMT plans to celebrate the Christmas season with a special starring Larry the Cable Guy.
The country music lifestyle network also said “My Big Redneck Wedding” will return for a second season beginning in October with eight half-hour episodes.
The “Larry the Cable Guy’s Star-Studded Christmas Extravaganza” will debut the weekend of Nov. 21 (exact time and date to be announced). It will tape July 30 at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville.
Billed as a throwback to old-school holiday variety shows, the special is scheduled to feature Toby Keith, Lewis Black, Fred Willard, Terry Fator, Victoria Jackson, Tony Orlando, Montgomery Gentry and others.
The Cable Guy did a holiday special last year for VH1, like CMT an MTV Networks channel. “We had so much fun last year trying to re-create one of those old Christmas specials from the ’70s, we thought we’d try doing it every year. Lucky for us, CMT liked it too,” Larry the Cable Guy said in the announcement.
Jack Records/Warner Bros. Records will release the special on DVD on Nov. 25.
“My Big Redneck Wedding” is hosted by Tom Arnold.
The new season will feature receptions at which monster trucks and camouflage lingerie are part of the festivities.
