RTNDA Announces Unity Award Winners

The Radio-Television News Directors Association will co-present the ninth annual RTNDA/Unity Awards during the gala opening of this year’s Unity conference July 23 in Chicago.
The awards recognize news organizations that have shown a commitment to reporting on cultural diversity in their communities.
Among the TV winners being recognized are CNN, Atlanta for “Special Investigations Unit: Children of the Storm” in the network TV category. WTLV-TV in Jacksonville, Fla., will receive the award in the large market category for “Dropping Out.” WHA-TV in Madison, Wis., gets honors for “Way of the Warrior” in the small market category.
In the radio categories, PRI’s The World, Boston, wins in the network category for its “PRI’s The World: Global Resource Service.” WNYC-FM New York’s report “WNYC’s Radio Rookies: NYC Immigrant Teens” and South Dakota Public Broadcasting of Vermillion, S.D.’s, “SDPB Radio” are being recognized in the large and small market categories, respectively.
Unity: Journalists of Color, an alliance of minority journalism groups including the Asian American Journalists Association, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the National Association of Black Journalists and the Native American Journalists Association, organizes a quadrennial conference in order to address the issues facing journalists of color in news media.
This year’s winners also will be honored at the RTNDA Awards dinner Oct. 13 in New York.
