Springer: Back to the Future

Jerry Springer is going old-school.
“The Jerry Springer Show” is going back to its roots as it heads into its 18th season, with Executive Producer Richard Dominick returning the syndicated talk show to a single-storyline format.
“My feeling has always been to come up with more than building a new set every couple of years,” Mr. Dominick said. “We’ve always reinvented the show every couple of years, and this time I felt that I wanted to go back to the basics of focusing on a single storyline over the course of a show instead of going in a bunch of different directions.”
The series will eliminate many of the extra characters that have popped up on the show over the past few years and will incorporate more elements involving the audience.
“Of course that doesn’t mean we won’t be bringing back Springer-Cam every now and then, but we are making a concerted effort to create a wildly entertaining mixture of great storylines, wild guests and an enthusiastic crowd,” Mr. Dominick said.
Mr. Dominick joined “The Jerry Springer Show” as a producer in its first year and quickly became coordinating producer. In 1993 he was named senior producer, taking over as executive producer in April 1994.
Mr. Dominick also will continue to oversee “The Steve Wilkos Show,” which is readying for its sophomore go-round, as executive producer.
“Steve is doing great. He is coming into his own as a talk show host,” Mr. Dominick said. “With his background as a police officer, we are literally getting thousands of letters from around the country asking Steve for his help, and we are now gearing up to take the show on the road even more for season two.”
Last season, “The Steve Wilkos Show” hit the road seven times, but producers are planning to travel as many as 25 times this year.
Pre-production on the two shows will begin this month, with taping starting in August.
“I like the idea of doing two shows,” Mr. Dominick said. “I’m not the kind of guy who can sit around, and I feel that both these shows have my mark on them. I love doing it and I can’t wait to see where each season takes us.”

  1. I cannot belive that stations like WMYD “MyTV20” carry him [Jerry springer] several times a day. I passed by the show and saw old clips of older shows. They are really struggling for content, if the drunk “reverend” is drinking at a clearly spanish bar, when they play the clips.
However, on a SLIGHTLY better side, the Steve Wilcos show is not bad. I can easily see it turning the other way, in the next few seasons though. Now it deals with crimes against people and if Steve can help other people out, to resolve the issues. Sometimes he cannot. He gives up too easily.
Either way, the Springer content on both shows really shows how low daytime and overnight TV is getting. Especially when you have “1-900 date chat” sponsers in the clusters. Not to meniton spots along the same seedy lines of “wash & curl” and “pedegg”, that have little to no value to the consumer’s intelligence.
Its frightening to see that trash TV is back for an 18th season. I can see why Toledo, Ohio DMA had dropped the show. Something Good that came out of Toledo….for a change!
