YouTube Feels Heat of Summer

Aug 21, 2008  •  Post A Comment

Summer was good to YouTube. The world’s biggest video-sharing site delivered 5 billion streams to nearly 78 million unique visitors in July, according to Video Census figures from Nielsen Online. That’s a 25% increase in volume from June, when YouTube served up 4 billion streams.
The reason for the rise was not immediately apparent, but it could be due to seasonal patterns with more kids home from college and on summer break.
In June, YouTube reached about 72 million unique visitors.
The Fox Interactive Web sites, including the dominant MySpace, also were up in July with 296 million streams delivered to 20 million unique visitors, up from 240 million streams served to 17 million uniques in June.
The Nickelodeon network of sites grabbed the third slot for most popular online video brands, luring 7 million unique visitors to watch 212 million streams in July, up from 172 million streams in June to about the same number of people.

  1. Are we tracking viewers from other planets? 78 billion unique users, with 5 billion on this planet, where did the other 73 million come from 🙂

  2. They said 78 million, not billion.
In April, YouTube had a bout 4 billion views so the numbers are tracking.
Now all we need to do is figure out how to monetize the new video real estate.
