FCC Slates DTV Press Conference in Wilmington, Keeps Eye on Hurricane

The Federal Communications Commission will host a press conference on the digital television transition in Wilmington, N.C., at 10:30 a.m. on Monday. The event, to be held at Thalian Hall, is set to coincide with Wilmington’s early switch to digital TV that day at noon.
Expected to be present at the conference are FCC Chairman Kevin J. Martin, FCC Commissioner Michael J. Copps, NTIA Acting Assistant Secretary Meredith Baker, Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo, National Association of Broadcasters President-CEO David Rehr and Gary McNair, vice president/general manager of NBC affiliate WECT-TV.
The FCC is keeping a close eye on hurricane forecasts. Any decision to postpone the digital transition in Wilmington should weather conditions worsen will be posted at www.fcc.gov no later than 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Viewers in New Hanover, Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus and Pender counties can contact the following organizations for help with obtaining or installing a digital converter box.

Pender County: Call Donna Pridgen, Administrative Assistant, Town of Burgaw Police Department, 910-663-3463.
