Hulu to Pre-Premiere NBC’s ‘Knight Rider,’ Others

NBC will debut on Hulu the season premieres of new show “Knight Rider” and returning programs “Lipstick Jungle,” “Chuck,” “Life” and “30 Rock” a week before those episodes air on broadcast TV, according to Hulu’s blog. NBC confirmed that the shows will also air on NBC.com a week in advance of their on-air premieres.
The move is designed to help generate some advance online buzz for those programs.
It’s not the first time a network has premiered a show on the Web before the broadcast premiere. In 2005, Yahoo partnered with The WB to show “The Supernatural” a week before its on-air premiere. Since then, the advance Web release has become a common tactic for TV networks.
The availability of the shows on Hulu also can help build a bigger audience for the NBC-Fox online video venture. Hulu delivered more than 105 million video streams in July, according to Nielsen Online.
