Ion Television and Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution have inked a multiyear film acquisition deal. From this fall through summer 2010, the network will broadcast selected films made by the Warner Bros. studio.
“Our deal with Warner Bros. is part of our newly rebranded commitment to provide entertaining popular content with mass appeal to broad audiences,” Ion Media Networks’ Chairman-CEO Brandon Burgess said in a statement. “As we broaden our content footprint, we are also putting in place a programming organization that will manage our creative expansion.”
The films include Martin Scorsese’s “Goodfellas,” Michael Mann’s “Heat” and “Training Day” starring Oscar winner Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke. The first film to be broadcast under this partnership, “Grumpy Old Men” starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, will air Sept. 24 at 8 p.m.
“Theatrical motion pictures are consistent ratings performers and play an important part in a network’s programming mix, so we’re excited to continue our relationship with Ion to include this new slate of hit movies from the Warner Bros. collection,” Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution President Ken Werner said in a statement.
