Revision3 Launches 7 Shows

Sep 28, 2008  •  Post A Comment

Online television network Revision3 was slated to launch its new farm league of seven up-and-coming Web shows today.
Revision3beta.com, part of the network’s incubator project to find and grow Web stars and shows, is offering programming that covers beverages, finance, music, technology and other topics.
The goal of the beta program is to find the next crop of Internet shows that Revision3 can then add to its lineup alongside mainstays “Diggnation” and “Tekzilla.” Revision3 will promote the fledgling shows with pre-roll ads in its established shows.
While television networks and agents have been scouting the Web for the next generation of talent for some time, the Revision3 project underscores that Web networks also need to be on the lookout for those diamonds in the rough.
Revision3 also is using the beta program to expand its programming. “I wanted a broad range of shows that was a departure from Revision3’s traditional technology content,” said Martin Sargent, director of acquisitions at Revision3 and host of “Internet Superstar.”
He pointed out that, much like television pilots, not all of the shows will succeed. But the program should allow Revision3 to test, with minimal investment, which shows resonate with an audience. “Our hope is to build audiences for these shows and move them into the main Revision3 lineup once those audiences are built and the shows polished,” he said.
Revision3 is working with video upload service Viddler to power the beta project.
The seven new shows are: “Bottles, Blends and Brews,” a drink culture review show; “Hack College,” on open-source tips for students; “That’s Awesome.TV,” on how to do awesome things using technology; “The Minx Mandate,” in which the hosts delves into the future of science, celebrity, sex and technology; “The Slice,” on what real people are doing with real money; “What You Should Know,” a series that discusses people, places and ideas; and “Your Weekly Music Lesson With Walt,” about music.
