VH1 Slates ‘Pickup Artist 2’

Sep 24, 2008  •  Post A Comment

VHI has reteamed with pickup master Mystery for a second season of “The Pickup Artist,” premiering Oct. 12.
Mystery will guide nine “socially awkward” students in how to pick up women. The last man standing will receive $50,000.
New wing-girl Tara will join Mystery and season one’s wing-man Matador in “The Pickup Artist 2,” which moves to Phoenix for this season.
“It’s certainly no mystery why we’ve partnered again with Mystery,” said Jeff Olde, VH1’s executive VP of original programming and production, in a statement. “He already had a legion of followers from his book when we launched ‘The Pickup Artist’ series last year, and now he’s grown into a pop culture phenomenon. He’s even been parodied on ‘Saturday Night Live’—a true indicator of water-cooler buzz.”

  1. Only one point of contention … the “socially awkward” contestants “radomly selected” from last year’s show were actually exposed as being (paid) actors. As much as I wish to beleive that Mystery’s teachings are so powerful, finding this out made it all appear to be a complete let down and farce.

  2. Please don’t give this “Mystery” charlatan more free publicity.

  3. Yes, some of the contestants in season 1 did have professional acting experience, however they were not paid to be on the show. Producers will often choose people with acting or media backgrounds because they are more likely to be willing to ‘perform’ in public, and/or with cameras watching, making for more interesting television.
And just because someone is able to act on a stage in a controlled, scripted environment, it doesn’t mean they are good at picking up women. I would know, I’m an actor and have barely any skill with women.

  4. What happened to J-Dog? He’s much better than Maatdor.
