The 24th annual Mipcom conference saw record attendance, with 13,588 participants by the close of the market on Oct. 17.
The increase of 1.6% from Mipcom 2007 was driven by growing attendance from regions such as the Middle East, Turkey, Russia, India, China and Ukraine.
The number of international buyers also increased by 7.2% to 4,573.
Mipcom 2008 welcomed 4,519 registered companies from 103 countries, with 1,779 of them constituting exhibitors.
Over at Mipcom Junior, attending companies rose 19% to a total of 613. Presented programming also increased 23% to 1,143 programs.
“With the growth of the METRIC countries (Middle East, Turkey, Russia, India and China), Mipcom is now more than ever the market for professionals who want to negotiate business with new territories and develop content for all platforms,” Paul Johnson, director of television at Reed Midem, said in a statement. “That’s why this year we put several tools in place to help with that, such as our Mip Accelerators matchmaking events. We will be enlarging them at Mip TV 2009.”

  1. Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
