MSNBC to Go HD in the Spring

Joining the rest of the 24-hour news pack, MSNBC is making the leap to full 1080i high definition starting next spring, the network announced this week.
“As viewers are making the transition to HD more and more every day, we’re looking forward to delivering what they want: a full high-definition experience on MSNBC,” MSNBC President Phil Griffin said. “In addition to our live news programs, over 80% of our new documentaries will be presented in HD.”
MSNBC is one of the 24-hour news channel latecomers to the HD realm, as CNN moved to high-def in September 2007 and Fox News made the leap in May of this year.
The announcement comes one year after the NBC News cable channel’s move into NBC corporate headquarters at Rockefeller Center in New York. The network said that since the move, MSNBC has been telecasting from two HD-ready studios.
Despite the hardware availability, full HD has been delayed because the studio has only one HD-ready control rooms. A second one will go online in the spring.
