NBC Gives ‘Kath & Kim’ Back-Nine Order

NBC has decided to show some patience with low-rated new comedy “Kath & Kim,” giving the series a full-season order.
The network late Friday ordered nine additional episodes of the Universal Media Studios/Reveille-produced half-hour, which stars Molly Shannon and Selma Blair. NBC had previously ordered a full season of freshman drama “Knight Rider.”
“Kath & Kim” has averaged a weak 2.6 rating/7 share among adults 18-49 and just 6 million viewers. However, NBC is taking heart from the fact that the show is retaining all of its “My Name Is Earl” lead-in, while inching up a tad among adults 18 to 34.
“‘Kath & Kim’ is a show we love and believe in,” said Teri Weinberg, executive vice president, NBC Entertainment. “We have incredible confidence in the creative auspices of this show and we believe it’s a perfect fit with our Thursday night comedies.”
Michelle Nader (“King of Queens”) is executive producer and writer of the series. Gina Riley and Jane Turner, original creators and stars of the Australian series on which NBC’s version is based, serve as executive producers of the new series along with Rick McKenna, Michelle Nader and Howard T. Owens.
Separately, industry insiders confirm that Media Rights Capital has permanently pulled the plug on its two Sunday dramas “Easy Money” and “Valentine,” which aired on The CW. Eight episodes were produced; there’s no word yet on what will replace them.

  1. Good, plenty of time to burn this show to the ground and start from scratch.
I looked forward to “Kath & Kim” and have been very patient. Both actresses are perfect in those roles.
But dammit is this show dreadful! Bad writing and poor execution lead to zero laughs.
    Get it together NBC…

  2. Kath & Kim is a pretty terrible show. Let’s be honest, it doesn’t offer any upstanding morals, anything redeemable, or really anything that most other comedy’s can offer. It really just makes me want to change the station and never watch anything from that station. NBC should hang it up and stick to great shows like SNL, the Office, and Dateline. Hopefully it will be canceled soon. Don’t get me wrong, the actors and actresses are great, but the show should be tossed.

  3. Kath and Kim wasn’t the best but it sure is 75 times better than what they replaced it with…Parks and Rec??? Please bring back Kath and Kim if these are the choices.
