Nick’s Little Fashion Maven

What if a kid won the competition on “Project Runway”?
That’s almost the idea behind a new show on Nickelodeon called “True Jackson, VP,” which debuts Nov. 8.
Fifteen-year-old Keke Palmer plays Jackson, an entrepreneurial youngster spotted by the head of a clothing company to lead its youth division.
Ms. Palmer, who starred in the feature films “Akeelah and the Bee” and “The Long Shots,” also co-wrote and sings the series’ theme song.
True Jackson starts the series as a teenager selling sandwiches outside the office building of a major fashion label. She tries to sell a sandwich to the label’s boss and is instead offered a job.
Of course, the job is fraught with perils, problems and politics as she deals with her new, older co-workers. During the first season, she makes mistakes, such as lending out a one-of-a-kind dress, and faces difficult situations, like being pressed to fire her best friend. Eventually, the fashion world becomes just another day in high school, the network says.
Guest stars will include skateboarder Ryan Sheckler and actress Julie Bowen.
Andy Gordon, who has worked on such series as “NewsRadio,” “Just Shoot Me” and “Mad About You,” is the creator and executive producer of the Nick series.
“‘True Jackson, VP’ is the perfect partnership of terrific talent, larger-than-life fantasy fulfillment, fashion and comedy,” said Marjorie Cohn, Nickelodeon’s executive VP of development and original programming. “With sitcom veteran Andy Gordon working his magic off-screen and the charismatic and supremely talented Keke Palmer working hers on-screen, we think kids are going to be engaged in a big way.”
“With two young Nickelodeon fans of my own at home, I am inspired to make ‘True Jackson, VP’ a show that’s not only funny and irreverent, but with positive values and characters my kids can look up to,” Mr. Gordon said. “Working for Nickelodeon has been a dream come true, and has elevated my status from ‘not too cool’ to ‘really cool’ dad.”
The show will have its own dedicated Web site, TrueJacksonVP.com, which will feature original and user-generated content, games, message boards, blogs, actor bios and screensavers.
Nickelodeon plans to launch “True Jackson, VP” as part of its “Big Night of Comedy.” Its lead-in will be the channel’s first “iCarly” TV movie, “iGo to Japan.”
