‘SNL’ Ratings Soar on Palin Cameo

Oct 23, 2008  •  Post A Comment

A visit from vice presidential candidate Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin lifted the Oct. 18 edition of “Saturday Night Live” to several new ratings highs, including its biggest viewership since 1994.
Drawing 15 million viewers, the Oct. 18 episode of “SNL” also brought in a 5.5 rating/20 share in adults 18- to 49-year-old demographic, the show’s highest since January 2001, according to official data released by Nielsen Media Research today.
The episode is “SNL’s” third-most-viewed show since September 1987, when Nielsen began using local people meters to track viewership levels.
Gov. Palin’s “SNL” episode also included appearances from host Josh Brolin, Tina Fey, Oliver Stone, Alec Baldwin and Mark Wahlberg.
On a viewership tear of late thanks to political spoofing and Ms. Fey’s portrayal of Gov. Palin, the show is up year-to-year in adults 18-49 by 129% and total viewers by 181%.

  1. You mean “national” peoplemeters in 1987. Local peoplemeters didn’t come around til this century

  2. This is for Live Plus Same Day viewing only. It does not count any viewing after 300am, so it figures this number will grow dramatically once that info is available.
