Emmy nominee Joan Allen has signed on to star in the title role of Lifetime biopic “Georgia O’Keeffe.” The movie focus on the celebrated painter’s 20-year love affair with photographer Alfred Steiglitz, to be played by Emmy winner Jeremy Irons. Allen also will executive produce. Bob Balaban, Emmy-nominated for HBO’s “Bernard and Doris,” will direct.
“Georgia O’Keeffe,” which is scheduled to premiere in fall 2009, is another in a series of original productions from the female-skewing cable network to feature established and renowned talent. “Coco Chanel,” a biopic about the French designer’s golden years that bowed in September, starred Oscar winner Shirley MacLaine. Projects starring Sigourney Weaver and Ruby Dee are already in development at the network.
“In working with such brilliant and respected actors as Joan Allen and Jeremy Irons, Lifetime reiterates its commitment to the production of first-rate motion picture projects,” said Tanya Lopez, Lifetime’s senior VP of original movies, in a statement.
