John McCain’s first post-election interview with Jay Leno on NBC’s “The Tonight Show” gave the program its highest overnight rating since the show returned to original episodes during the 2008 writers strike in January.
Coinciding with Veterans Day, Sen. McCain’s interview drew a 4.9 rating/12 share in overnight household ratings in 56 metered markets, according to preliminary Nielsen Media Research data.
The rating is also the highest for a Tuesday on “The Tonight Show” since February 2007.
Last night’s numbers were up 32% over “Tonight’s” season-to-date average.
Final national ratings are expected from Nielsen on Nov. 20.
