“The Oprah Winfrey Show’s” post-election program Wednesday took in its highest ratings in metered household markets in almost nine months.
The show drew a 6.5 preliminary household rating in 56 metered markets, which is also a season high.
Ms. Winfrey, who was a prominent member of the crowd at President-elect Barack Obama’s celebration speech in Grant Park on Tuesday, endorsed Sen. Obama’s bid for the presidency but vowed to remain mum on the subject on her show.
At the start of the show, Ms. Winfrey told loyal viewers who might have voted differently than she did that she understands how disappointed them might be today.
“I’m telling you, if this were not the outcome, I’d be doing this show from Northwestern Hospital with a drip today,” she joked.
Wednesday’s show featured as guests political consultant David Gergen, Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., journalist Gloria Steinem, columnist Peggy Noonan and author Henry Louis Gates.

  1. I hope that Obama turns out to be a great president. Already I am tired of hearing that he is the first african american president of the United States, he is not, he is the first bi-racial president of the United States of America. His father was black and his mother was white. He was abandoned by his father and raised by his white grandmother.

  2. I really find it interesting that most of the time if an American has ONE drop of Black blood running through his veins he is charged with being Black. However, now that America has a BLACK president Sally seems to be tring to steal at least half of Black America’s joy by claiming President Elect Obama is not Black. Sally he IS Black — half Black, all Black WHATEVER! Stating that he was abandoned by his Black father and raised by his grandmother in my opinion only gives greater evidence that he shares a very common Black experience. You should get some rest Sally, because I for one will be SHOUTING it is my great joy to have the God given blessing of living to see a Brother and Sister take up residence in the WHITE HOUSE!!!!

  3. All of us Blacks (African Americans) have some white in us because of the road our slave brothers or shall I say slave mothers traveled. The slave masters had their way with our families, and made us all bi-racial. Non the less we still remain Black (African Americans). Science has found that the Black gene is the most domonant gene of all races. If the Black gene is mixed with any other race, the Black gene over powers the other gene transforming it into a Black gene. That is why we are concidered Black when mixed with other ethnic genes. It was the Black slaves that build the white house, it is only fitting that a Black man also enjoy the fruit of the labor by the blood, sweat and tears of the Black slaves.

  4. I was raised in the Mississippi Delta where hatred of blacks is very prominent. As far as who our President is the color of ones skin makes no difference to me. It is more about who is better suited for the position and Obama definately is a shue in. I will be glad when this country and the world for that matter stops looking at the color of ones skin to determine their opinions. If I get cut, I bleed, and so does the rest of humanity. Suffering, hunger, and longing are all shared human experiences. We need to start being a more evolved society and start tackling the real issues of this world. And do our best to help make this world a better place. If it so happens that a man of color helps usher that in, then so be it.
