‘Deal’ Leads Weekly Syndie Ratings

The ratings shootout continues between syndication rookies “The Doctors” from CBS Television Distribution and “Deal or No Deal” from NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution, as “Deal” edged ahead of “Doctors” for the week ending Dec. 7.
“Deal” grabbed a 1.8 household rating, leaving the show flat from the previous week. “The Doctors” slipped 11% to a 1.7.

The two shows have been jockeying for position in recent weeks, with “Doctors” surpassing “Deal” during the week ending Nov. 30 with a season-high 1.9 household rating.
“The Doctors” remains the only freshman series so far to be renewed for a second season.
“Deal’s” ratings performance makes its renewal likely as well.
The rest of the daily rookie syndicated shows posted no ratings changes, holding steady from their previous rating. Disney-ABC’s weekend fantasy series “Legend of the Seeker” boosted ratings by 11% to a 2.1.
This most recent week of ratings data is the first week after the November sweeps ratings period, and that tends to lead to a viewership downturn as program promotion dries up and repeats start infiltrating the schedule.
Despite that phenomenon, the court genre performed well, with no programs declining week to week. CBS Television Distribution’s “Judge Judy” led the group with a 5% ratings upswing to a 4.6, followed by “Judge Joe Brown” with a 2.5, increasing 4%. “Brown’s” performance was a season high.
Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution’s “The People’s Court” moved up 5% to a 2.1. The rest of the pack stayed flat, with the exception of a 7% increase from Twentieth Television’s “Divorce Court” to a 1.5.
Only two talk shows made gains from last week, CBS Television Distribution’s “The Oprah Winfrey Show” (5.2, up 6%) and Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution’s “The Tyra Banks Show” (1.1, up 10%).
A majority of the genre slipped, including CBS Television Distribution’s “Dr. Phil” (3.3, down 11%), Warner Bros.’ “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” (2.3, down 8%) and NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution’s “Maury” (1.7, down 15%).
Shows in prime-time-adjacent time periods were erratic week-to-week, due in part to Thanksgiving and Black Friday influencing viewership during the week ending Nov. 30.
Shows can opt to drop Thanksgiving and Black Friday from their weekly averages, giving the appearance of a higher average and inflating the week-to-week drop.
CBS Television Distribution’s “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy!” increased 15% week-to-week to a 7.7 and a 6.2, respectively. Disney-ABC’s “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” rose 4% to a 2.5, while Debmar-Mercury’s “Family Feud” dropped 13% to a 1.3.
Among entertainment newsmagazine shows, CBS’ “Entertainment Tonight” fell 7% to a 4.2, but placed first in the genre. “Inside Edition” followed with a 3.0, up 11%, with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution’s “TMZ” in third with a 2.0, up 5%.

  1. I think everybody should watch deal or no deal its where dreams come true. And it makes you wonder how it would feel to be up there on stage going through the same emotions if not better if you were the contestant.
    One day I hope to be up there with my fiance and our two kids I think the experience would be worth a million just in words!!!
