Gospel Music Channel Sings Praises of Bermuda

Gospel music can move people, but can it get them to go to Bermuda?
The Bermuda Department of Tourism is betting yes, and has made a deal with the Gospel Music Channel to get viewers interested in faith-based travel to consider the island as a destination.
The deal is unusual because the network won’t be running traditional 30-second spots but instead will be producing three 90-second “Gospel Insider” branded vignettes for Bermuda.
The network said the vignettes will be airing in heavy rotation during the first quarter. They also will be available on-demand through cable operators and on the network’s Web site, www.gospelmusichannel.com.
“Gospel has an overwhelming influence to so many people and activities in Bermuda,” said Ewart F. Brown, Bermuda’s premier, who also serves as minister of tourism and transport. “It is a pleasure to join forces with Gospel Music Channel to highlight some of our faith-based events and show the world what Bermuda has to offer.”
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Gospel Music Channel will be sending a camera crew this month to tape the three vignettes in Bermuda, which lies due east of South Carolina.
One will feature Lisa Kimmey, co-host of Gospel Music Channel’s “Bobby Jones: Next Generation” series, interviewing Mr. Brown, who will be discussing faith-based tourism and the historical impact of gospel music in Bermuda.
Ms. Kimmey also will host a tour of Bermuda’s music venues. This second vignette will showcase various genres of music from Bermuda, especially those influenced by gospel.
The third vignette will feature clips from a special command performance by Melinda Watts, the winner of GMC’s talent-search series “Gospel Dream.” Ms. Watts will be performing for Premier Brown and guests.
“This agreement serves as a great example of how we can work with advertisers to help them break through to consumers with branded entertainment that reaches an upscale, multicultural audience,” said Mary Jeanne Cavanagh, executive VP for advertising sales at Gospel Music Channel. “We are delighted to team up with the Bermuda Department of Tourism to produce these vignettes. Our loyal and engaged audience will find the content to be informative and fun, and they will embrace Bermuda for supporting gospel music.”
The deal was negotiated by GlobalHue, the advertising agency for the Bermuda Department of Tourism.
Gospel Music Channel bills itself as the fastest-growing network in television today. Launched in 2004, it is now available in 40 million homes on cable and via DirecTV.
