It’s not TV. It’s Oprah.
HBO and Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Films have formed a multiyear exclusive relationship to develop and produce scripted programming for the network.
Project could include miniseries, movies, documentaries and series.
“HBO and Harpo Films are both committed to the highest standards in the entertainment industry, making this a great match,” said Kate Forte, president of Harpo Films. “The format and creativity offered by HBO are unique in television, and the quality and range of their subjects are extraordinary. There is simply no other place like it. We look forward to doing great things together.”
“This is the perfect partnership for Harpo Films,” said Ms. Winfrey.
HBO Co-President Richard Plepler said, “Oprah personifies excellence and quality in everything she does. It’s a great privilege for us to partner with her in the coming years.”
Harpo had worked with ABC for 15 years, but its most recent deal with the Disney-owned network expires at the end of the year.
Ms. Winfrey also is creating a cable channel, OWN, with Discovery Communications. The HBO deal has no impact on that, Ms. Forte said.
