Looking to follow up on its successful launch of “The Locator” featuring Troy Dunn, WE tv is getting ready to premiere another original reality show, “I Want to Save Your Life.”
In the new series, Charles Platkin, known as the “diet detective,” is called in to help by friends and family of an individual struggling with weight issues.
Eight half-hour episodes will premiere in the first quarter of 2009.
In each episode, after being hired, Mr. Platkin takes secret cameras into an unsuspecting subject’s life, tracking food intake and exercise habits, the network said.
He works with the subject for several days, following the person at home and work, suggesting ways to improve his or her life. He leaves the subject with a game plan for a healthier existence, and checks back several months later to see how things turned out.
“Airing as part of the network’s ‘WE Transform’ programming strand, this new series is fascinating to watch, not only for the dramatic physical transformations but the complete lifestyle turnarounds that Charles is able to foster,” said Steve Cheskin, senior VP of programming for WE tv. “It’s a series that’s very much in keeping with our strategy of bringing viewers original stories that inspire and make an emotional connection.”
Mr. Platkin has given his expert weight-loss advice in more than 500 radio, television and talk show interviews, including “Today” and “The Early Show,” as well as in numerous publications including Los Angeles Times, Ladies’ Home Journal, Fitness Magazine, Self, Cosmopolitan, the Chicago Tribune, the New York Daily News and Newsday.
“I Want to Save Your Life” is being produced by High Noon Entertainment.
