Obama Gives Lauer Super Bowl Interview

Jan 26, 2009  •  Post A Comment

“The Today Show” host Matt Lauer has snagged a Super exclusive, landing a one-on-one interview with President Obama.
Mr. Lauer’s interview will be broadcast Sunday during NBC’s three-hour Super Bowl pregame show. The network is expected to announce its scoop during this morning’s edition of “Today.”
NBC is using Super Bowl Sunday to give exposure to virtually all of its units, from the Weather Channel to USA Network.
President Obama’s first post-inaugural TV interview was with ABC’s “Good Morning America” anchor Robin Roberts, who collared Mr. Obama backstage at Tuesday’s “Neighborhood Ball.” Their conversation lasted just a couple of minutes and aired in prime time during ABC’s broadcast of the bash.
It’s unclear if the president will grant any other major TV interviews between now and Sunday.
Mr. Obama is no stranger to Super Bowl media availabilities. He was interviewed by Fox last year during that network’s broadcast of the big game.
Other presidents, including George W. Bush, have used the Super Bowl as a platform to get their message across.

  1. I have tried three times to post this message. I am beginning to think it is being read as I type, and because what I am saying is not positive to NBC, an error always occurs….one more time, give us one day without the politics and let us enjoy the Super Bowl witout the blathering of our President….that’s it. This is a day for Family, friends, food and fun. We should be making bets and brats…Nothing he could say will enlighten the day. Let us have one day of peace, without the doom and gloom of our situation.

  2. Since more than three-quarters of the country likes the President, many of us will enjoy this. It’s nice to have some real content with the wall to wall Superbowl coverage which endlessly recycles a lot of information. I will watch and enjoy the game, but while there may be some excellent content in the rest of the coverage, it is vastly overdone. I expect President Obama to inject some humor as well since he is a reality-based guy. Certainly an improvement over the Limbaugh axis of negativity.

  3. The timing of the so-called “technical difficulties”, at the moment the President began to make reference to the fact that House Democrats adopted many of the GOP recommendations on stimulus package, made it VERY CLEAR to EVERYONE that loss of audio was VERY DELIBERATE!!!
NBC should be ASHAMED of itself for this CRASS disrespect of the intelligence of the American people!! Only NBC ended up looking like the idiots that you are.
You did a good Matt. Of course, our President was GREAT & GRACIOUS, as usual!!

  4. I just saw an ad for an upcoming interview w/ our 44th PRESIDENT right before we were taken into the 2nd half of the Super Bowl.
NBC’s voice-over said it’s an interview w/ “Barack Obama”. How many times will the media such as NBC need to get called out on these “slip-ups” & “fumbles” about giving our new CHIEF EXECUTIVE/COMMANDER IN CHIEF of the United States the hard earned respect he has obtained. Thus since JANUARY 20, 2009, Mr. President is addressed like all other former Presidents as President Obama.

  5. I think Matt Lauer is the biggest prick for the way he talked to Obama. He treated him with total disrespect and lack of regard for his position as the President of the USA. Furthermore, he should have kept it light since this was a pregame interview before the super bowl instead he was asking controversial questions that where it really wasn’t the right time or place for him to be asking. His true true lack of class really showed when he started asking Obama for Oprah’s ph #, as well as showing him the picture of the magazine where his pic was removed. What a putz I guy like Matt Lauer should have NO BUSINESS interviewing any high profile people especially the President of the US. Who ever chose him to interview Obama should be canned and he should be canned as well. What an emberassment to the Nation. They even had to pause it so that they can tell this deuche bag to lighten up the conversation and instead he ends up insulting the President. Good job Matt Lauer for being the biggest dick head on the planet and good job nbc for choosing him to represent you on this monumental interview.

  6. What a waste of an interview.
Who cares that Obama’s mother in law lives with him- What a stupid question. And its great that he gets to tuck his kids in at night…blah, blah, blah.
If this is the kind of kid glove treatment we can expect from the press covering Obama, we are in deep trouble.
Enough of the BS questions. Ask him about his Richardson nomination. Ask him about 2 cabinet choices with tax issues. Ask him why he brought back Emmanuel and Hillary…while talking about change he brings in two of Bill Clinton’s closest pals.
Where is the “Change” we were promised? Recycled Clinton’s and dishonest cabinet appointments? Where are the questions on that Matt?
What a wasted opportunity to ask real questions. Stick to interviewing celebrities on the Today Show- nobody cares what they have to say, and it is easy to forgive asking easy questions of them. But, step up when you have a President to interview. Whats next- asking him if he ties his kids hairbows?

  7. oh, big deal, he READ what Lauer pointed to on the cover of US Weekly,
    the captions says “WEIGHT BATTLE”,
what the f* is wrong with that?
he didn’t just “DECIDE” to comment on Jessica,
he WAS ASKED to comment on her pic replacing him.
    First kill the (pseudo) journalists,
    then kill the lawyers…

  8. Oh my gosh!!! what cheeze whiz. Matt honey if I didn’t know you were married and had children I would think you might have a girly crush on our president. And Susan honey, do your homework, 3/4’s of our nation does not “like” our president. Check the exit polls and get your numbers right. The super bowl was better than the inauguration and the only thing that made it slimy was Matt Lauer’s interview of the president of the greatest nation in the world. I truly hope President Obama proves me wrong because I love this country. But, interviews like that one just make me sick. President Obama wanted to enjoy the game like the rest of us. Super Bowl Sunday is not the time to remind our nation of our troubles. Regardless of my fears, I still respect our president’s office and his service to our country and even he deserves a break from idiot’s like Lauer. I just hope that congress will limit the salaries of tv talk show hosts and news anchors to $400,000 per year just like wall street because God knows they are not even worth that. Television anchors are worse than the STD’s that are included in our current bailout plan.

  9. Shame on NBC and shame on Lauer… it’s sad that people would delight in poor “entertainment.” we are a great Nation, but then we allow crap like this to air…(and we ruin it)

  10. Do you think Matt hand wrinkles around his mouth and a sore throat by the time he was finished with interviewing Hussein?

  11. To NBC and The Today Show:
This is in regards to the resent interview done on your show. I have a huge problem with NBC, Matt Lauer and others who continue to disrespect our President by not addressing him properly. There is no excuse for such behavior. As any other President he should always be addressed with respect, whether he is addressed as Mr. President or President Obama he has earned that title and it should always be used.
As a network the voice over announcing the upcoming interview with “Barack Obama” was incorrect. You all know better, and I can’t help but feel that it was deliberate. As for Matt Lauer, he showed no respect while addressing President Obama. We all have our personal opinions of people but that bias should not come across network television the way that it did. Even if you don’t respect the man you respect the title and position. On that same chord I believe that you also have a responsibility to correct your guests if they are addressing him incorrectly.

  12. Individuals want someone to look up to and glamorize ; I don’t . Those people who are notorious for being famous use much more space in our lives and are generally excessively overpayed.

  13. I made a decision to create this, when i read that a 16-year-old chick accessorizing with high-heeled shoes had dropped between carriages in a train in West Sussex The uk, Your lady was killed, for sure. It had been snowing that morning, but still this young woman, plus a lifetime of fashion preferences before her, came along a platform and is now gone. I could hardly help suspecting that had the young woman been wearing a shoe manufactured for motion, in place of to push her boobies out and also her pelvis forwards, she’d be full of life.

  14. Both of them Obama and Ahmadinejad are plagued with uppity peasants. The president in the Tea Party. Ahmadinejad from the Green Revolution this really is idiotic.

  15. Lohan Will Go to Rehabilitation Today, She will be basically carrying out this as a stunt in order to lessen her sentencing in October or else altogether dodge any jail time. She actually is so obvious and predictable.

  16. I know. It’s always seriously tough to differentiate between both of these. They are both United states haters, hell bent on its devastation. Both equally criticize The us and Us citizens incessantly. This is a hint, Barack obama is definitely the one lately succeeding in wrecking United states.

  17. Useful information, many thanks to the author. It is puzzling to me now, but in general, the usefulness and significance is overwhelming. Very much thanks again and good luck!
