The winter press tour of the Television Critics Association brought a handful of programming announcements from broadcast networks.
While the event did inspire a few swipes between rival network chiefs, executives for the most part avoided displays of schadenfreude toward the laggards in the bunch. Perhaps it was an awareness that “There but for the grace of God go I,” or perhaps it was the fabulous weather in Universal City, Calif.

ABC
—ABC Entertainment President Steve McPherson said the network wants more sitcoms.
—Mr. McPherson defended the creative direction of “Grey’s Anatomy.”
—ABC will not pick up 20th Century Fox TV’s “King of the Hill.”
—ABC’s new animated half-hour “The Goode Family” may not premiere until May.
—“According to Jim” is “probably in its final run.”
CBS
—CBS has plans for an “NCIS” spinoff.
—“Swingtown” is officially dead.
—CBS plans to produce about the same number of pilots as it has in recent years.
—CBS is moving forward on a John Mayer variety show pilot.
Fox
—“Prison Break” will wrap up its four-season run.
—April 19 is the premiere date for Sunday 8:30 p.m. show “Sit Down, Shut Up.”
—Fox plans to redevelop the failed comedy pilot “Boldly Going Nowhere”
—Fox will greenlight up to five half-hour comedy pilots within the next week.
—Fox will make around a half-dozen drama pilots.
—Fox executives see “Fringe” as a keeper.
NBC
—NBC has given early pickups to “The Office,” “30 Rock” and “The Biggest Loser.”
—The new Amy Poehler comedy will open April 9 behind “My Name Is Earl.” “Chopping Block” will air Wednesdays at 8 p.m. beginning March 11.
—NBC has pushed “ER’s” series finale to April 2 from 9-11 pm.
—John Wells’ new police drama “Southland” will inherit “ER’s” 10 p.m. Thursday timeslot starting April 9.
—“Kings” will air Sundays at 8 p.m., starting March 15.
