Discovery Channel is leaving the economy to the experts at CNBC.
Speaking with TelevisionWeek reporter Jon Lafayette at the Television Critics Association’s Winter Press Tour, Discovery Channel President and General Manager John Ford said the most important thing his network can do is give people something to watch when they’re at home.

One upcoming show premiering in the second quarter will give viewers a little taste of the economy, though. “But Wait, There’s More” centers around pitchmen who manufacture and sell products on TV.
Mr. Ford also touted Discovery’s new programming, which will push boundaries while staying within Discovery’s brand. Shows include “One Way Out,” about the science of escape artists, and “Out of the Wild: The Alaska Experiment.”
“‘Out of the Wild’ for us is just a continuation of our love affair with Alaska because it’s such a wild and crazy place,” Mr. Ford said.
