ABCNews.com, CBS Interactive Increase Traffic

ABCNews.com saw its number of unique visitors increase 24% in January to 22.1 million from the previous month.
Driven by coverage of the presidential inauguration, ABCNews.com page views increased 14% to 214.1 million, while video views were up 50% from the same time last year.
Also driving traffic to ABCNews.com was chief investigative correspondent Brian Ross and the Investigative Unit’s “Blotter” section, which increased its page views by 18% and garnered nearly 1 million page views for its report on the CIA’s former Algeria station chief who allegedly raped two Muslim women.
Other online sections earning increased page views were “This Week,” up 225% from last year; “World News,” up 94%; and “Nightline,” up 21%. The Politics section increased 32%, while Health was up 25%.
Mobile site m.abcnews.com grew 5% in page views from the previous month.
Coverage of Barack Obama’s presidential inauguration and the Consumer Electronics Show also fueled traffic increases for CBS Interactive in January, according to Nielsen NetRatings.
Unique visitors to CBSNews.com increased 64% month-over-month and 88% year-over-year. Visits were up 40% from last month and 57% from last year, while time spent on the site also increased 19% from the previous month and 50% from last year. Meanwhile, CBSSports.com dominated “engagement metrics” as visits grew 27% from last year and minutes consumed increased 55%.
CBS.com recorded a 39% increase in unique users year-over-year.
CNET.com maintained its No. 1 ranking in the Computer and Consumer Electronic News category, in addition to seeing a 24% increase from last year in unique visitors, thanks to coverage of the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show.
CBS Interactive’s TV.com and Last.fm also posted increases. Unique users, visits and minutes spent on TV.com rose 19%, 26% and 43%, respectively, from last month. Last.fm’s unique users grew 133% from this time last year, while visits were up 84%. The Web site placed in the Top 10 for the Entertainment/Music category in the U.S. for the first time.
