Visiting social networking and blogging sites has become the fourth most popular activity on the Internet, according to new figures from Nielsen Online. Nearly 67% of Internet users in the U.S., United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Brazil and Australia used one of the “member community” sites in December, up from 61.4% a year ago, making it the Web’s fastest-growing sector. The gain was fueled by a big increase in use in Germany, Nielsen Online said.
