Epix Taps MTV Executive Menzel

Epix, the premium cable service being launched by Viacom, its Paramount Pictures unit, Lionsgate and MGM, has hired Courtney Menzel from Viacom unit MTV Networks as its senior vice president of content distribution.
Menzel will continue to work under Denise Denson, executive VP of content distribution and marketing for MTV, Epix said in a statement today. The service expects to have access to all titles released by Paramount, MTV Films and Nickelodeon since Jan. 1, 2008, as well as all titles Lionsgate has released starting this year.
Menzel will use her relationships with multichannel service operators such as Comcast and Charter to secure distribution agreements for Epix, which will compete with Time Warner Inc.’s HBO, Liberty Media’s Starz and Viacom’s Showtime when it airs later this year. Last month, Viacom Chief Executive Officer Philippe Dauman said Epix would launch online in May and on cable in October.
Menzel, who has worked for MTV for 12 years, most recently was senior vice president of national accounts for the Viacom division. She previously worked for Cox Communications.
