NBC.com saw a bump in full-episode streaming with its video player in the fourth quarter, as well as higher user satisfaction compared with the quarter before, the network reported today.
Viewers also multitasked less when watching NBC shows on NBC.com in the fourth quarter than they did in the third quarter, a good sign that the shows are capturing their attention, NBC said. The network did not release specific numbers on usage, but did share directional information on usage.
The network’s study found that consumers primarily used NBC Rewind, the full-episode player on NBC.com, to watch episodes they missed on TV, but they used it more heavily in the fourth quarter of 2008 than in the same period a year.
Those who watch full episodes online also do so regularly. NBC reported that 94% of visitors always or usually watched the entire episode using NBC Rewind.
In the fourth quarter, more than half of the users watched an episode with someone else, another sign that online TV is consumed in a similar fashion to traditional TV.
