Blagojevich to Compete on NBC’s ‘Celebrity’

Apr 14, 2009  •  Post A Comment

Impeached Illinois Gov. Rod “Blago” Blagojevich has agreed to be a contestant on NBC and Granada America’s upcoming revival of “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!”
The network confirmed the news Tuesday night, but said Mr. Blagojevich’s participation was contingent on “the court’s approval.” The former governor today pleaded not guilty to multiple charges of criminal corruption.
The judge overseeing Mr. Blagojevich’s case would have to loosen travel restrictions on the ex-governor in order for Mr. Blagojevich to participate in the show. That’s because “I’m a Celebrity” will unfold in semi-real time in Costa Rica this June.
Celebrities on the show will be competing for charity, NBC said. However, many celebrity-type reality shows also regularly pay stars an appearance fee to participate above and beyond their announced winnings.
Such a fee generally is paid by the show’s production company.
NBC plans to air “I’m a Celebrity” five nights a week in June. The network should announce nine other participants within the next two weeks.

  1. Are they *trying* to make the show as unpalatable as possible? Blago — like the similarly follically-challenged Donald Trump — is among the most repellant men on the planet.

  2. Is NBC TRYING to lower their ratings even more? I don’t care if it is in another country, how in the world could they even consider such an insane move to hold-up, agree, approve, or whatever, anything that has to do with this disgraced
ex-government EMPLOYEE. Ratings are one thing, but loyalty by the public is what pays the bills.
But I guess comments by the peons don’t even rate on their radar. Who are we?

  3. I guess that means we will not be seeing a Presidential run by “Blah Go” in the near future!

  4. Another landmark in poor taste

  5. As a syndicated photographer on the red carpet in Hollywood at movie premieres, awards shows, charity and other -real- celebrity events, I have never photographed OJ Simpson, and I won’t photograph Blagojevich either.
What makes him or NBC think he’s a celebrity? Famous? Clearly not. Infamous? Absolutely!
The nerve of both him and the network. NBC deserves the last place ratings they’ve been getting.

  6. Very creative wrinting
